2023 will see the new championship formatt introduced as was revealed and passed at congress at the end of last month. While provincial finalists will contest the latter stages of the All Ireland championship, they will be joined by the next highest place teams in Division1 and 2 with those in 3 and 4 competing for the Tailteann cup should they fail to reach a provicial decider. Much debate had surrounded the changes been sought for the championship, but the "green proposal" brought to congress, passed with over 94% in favour. Former Monaghan player and Irish independent columnist Dick Clerkin noted it is not the perfect solution but is certainly a move in the right direction
