Longford's hopes of reaching the knockout stages have been dealt a major blow.

The Longford U20's hopes of reaching the Leinster football championship knockout stages have been dealt a major blow.

Kieran Carey’s side suffered a 2-12 to 2-9 defeat to Laois at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise.

Laois led 2-3 to 0-0 inside 15 minutes; Jamie Brady Hynes opened Longford’s account with a goal on 20 minutes.

Caolan Lynch, Michael Flynn (two each), Ronan Courtney and Michael Hynes added points as Longford trailed 2-5 to 1-6 at half-time.

Jason Glancy's goal on 40 minutes gave the visitors a one-point lead. 11 minutes later Laois' David Costello restored parity.

Laois finished strongly and two unanswered points saw the hosts claim their second win of the campaign.
