Town go down with six games remaining

Longford Town have been relegated from the SSE Airtricty premier division following a 2-0 defeat away to Drogheda United.

Second-half strikes from Darragh Markey and Mark Doyle see’s town relegated to the first division with six games remaining.

The sides went in scoreless at the break, seven second-half minute elapsed before Drogheda took the lead. Lee Stacey didn’t gather Mark Doyle’s shot and the rebound fell for Markey to slot home.

Drogheda went two-up on 66 minutes, Markey's initial shot was blocked. His follow-up was meet by the head of Mark Doyle who riffled the ball past Stacey.

Town never threatened in the second-half as their 20th defeat in 30 games means they make a straight return to the first division.
