Longford Rugby club notes weekending 13 March

Longford RFC win €5,000 in Texaco Support for Sport

Longford Rugby Football Club is to receive €5,000 funding under this year’s Texaco Support for Sport initiative hosted and organised by Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited.

The company that markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand.

The application was submitted by our Mini/Youth Chair Gerry Carthy and the winning of the prize is testament to the hard work going in that section, from Gerry and all the many Coaches/Volunteers and most importantly players in the Section.

Longford field upwards of 20 underage teams from U6 right through to U18 both male and female and to keep that show on the road requires a mammoth amount of work and funding.

Well done, we sure the funds will be put to excellent use!

Senior Men

Longford Senior Men are now finished league action and were knocked out of the Provincial Towns Cup last week versus Carlow as reported last week.  They now await the draw for the Provincial Towns Plate, which is for all teams knocked out in the Provincial Towns Cup first and second Rounds.

After having an away match in the first round hopefully Longford will get a more favourable home draw to start off their Plate Campaign.

Longford second XV are still in the Provincial Towns Cup and were drawn away to play Division 1B rivals Cill Dara on March 26th.

Senior Women

Longford Senior Women were due to play a double header away to Garda/CYM on Sunday but unfortunately the match was conceded by Garda/CYM.

This was the last match of the league for Longford Senior Women, who finish an excellent third place in the standings, after being promoted last season.

It has been a great season so far for Longford Senior Women, winning the pre-season Paul Cusack Plate and reaching the final of the Midland League.

They now turn their attention to the Paul Cusack Cup where they take on Portlaoise this Sunday at 1 PM in the first round.  All support would be appreciated. Best of luck ladies!
