LLR Senior Men’s League

Longford Phoenix 57 Ballina Braves 92

Ballina Braves were too strong for Phoenix in this clash at the Mall. James Ward and Jakub Safiak top-scored with 15 points and 14 points respectively. Stepic Hrvoje was the other player to hit double digits with 12 points.

Longford Phoenix 57 Donegal Town 92

The senior men also suffered a defeat to Donegal Town. James Ward top-scored with 14 points with Amusa Mubarak and Neil Kilbane also registering double-digits with 10 points each.

LLR Senior Ladies League

Longford Phoenix 1 52 Sligo All Stars 59

Our Ladies 1 team put in a brave display at home to Sligo before going down by seven points, 52 to 59. Marie McManus was our top-scorer with 18 points, closely followed by Adrienne Mulligan with 14 points.

Eva Gregg knocked down eight points and Eimear Tuite fired in six points. Karen Walsh and Monica Bannon added four points and two points respectively.

The Ladies 1 side were also on the road with a trip to Mohill, but they were well beaten by the home side.

Castlerea Cavaliers 46 Longford Phoenix 2 49

The team bounced back from the Mohill defeat with a superb three-point victory away to Castlerea.

Phoenix 2 trailed by 11 points at the end of the first-quarter, but displayed resilience, composure and tremendous skill to comeback and earn a narrow win.

Caoimhe Mulvey top-scored with 14 points, Rebecca Higgins & Aideen Mulligan scored 12 & 11 points respectively. Amy Finnegan knocked down 6 points, Rachel Penrose grabbed four points, while Isabelle Sweeney got two points. Eimear Branigan and Alex Lee completed the Phoenix line-up.

Fixture: Longford Phoenix 2 v Boyle, the Mall, Friday, February 3rd, 8:15pm.

Underage News:

Our Under-18 boys first and second teams were in action against their Portlaoise counterparts in the Midlands League. Our second team recorded a comprehensive victory, but our first team lost by 15 points.

Our Under-16 boys also took on Portlaoise in the Midlands League and lost narrowly.

Both of our Under 16 Boys LLR teams were in action away to Carrick Cougars on Saturday last. Our Division 1 side emerged victorious by 44 points to 30 and our Division two side completed the double with a narrow 26 points to 24 triumph.

It was the first league outing for our Division 2 Greens, who trailed by three points at the end of the third-quarter. Phoenix rallied superbly to outscore the hosts by seven points, leading by four before a late Carrick basket reduced the arrears to two with eight seconds to go. The Longford boys kept their composure to earn a good win.

The Phoenix Suns U-14 Division 1 side lost by 64 points to 17 against Ballinamore in the Carrick Sports Complex in the LLR League.

Seosamh Mulvihill with six points and captain; Christian McGerr with four points were our top scorers.

Our U-14 girls Suns put in a tremendous performance on the road against previously unbeaten Ballyroan, coming away with a 5-point win; 32 points to 27 points in their Midland League clash.
