Longford Phoenix basketball club notes

Senior Men

After beating Mohill by a point at home in the Mall in the LLR League two weeks ago, our men's team fought out another close contest against Mohill last Monday in the Mohill Sports Complex.

The Leitrim team coming out on top by just two points, 77 to 75.

Domas Vilys top-scored for Phoenix with 32 points, and David Maher scored 16 points. Jamie Mulligan hit 11 points while Dillon Swaris knocked down nine points.

Our other scorers were Neil Kilbane and Mark Canty with four and three points respectively. Oscar Gorman and Joshua Murphy completed our line-up on the night.

The busy week continued for the Phoenix men with another road trip last Thursday, when they faced the Sligo All Stars away.

The Yeats County team emerged comfortable winners by 91 points to 66. Domas Vilys again top-scored for Phoenix with 23 points, while the only other players to hit double digits were David Maher with 14 points and Kacper Baran with 12 points.

Senior Ladies

Our Ladies 1 team suffered a 35-27 defeat to the Drumlish Dragons on Friday night last in the LLR League.

Adrienne Mulligan was our highest scorer with 11 points, closely followed by Monica Bannon with eight points. Eimear Tuite fired in four points, while Jayne Walsh Smith and Karen Walsh both got two points each. Eilish Foley also featured in the match day team.

Ludmila Gavrisova top-scored for Drumlish with 12 points, while Leah Donnelly and Katie Crawford completed the top three scorers for the Dragons with 10 and eight points respectively.

Our Ladies two team earned a tremendous three-point triumph at home to fourth placed Boyle, 61-58 on Friday night; a result that secures a third place finish in the LLR League and a place in the end-of-season top four competition.

Rachel Penrose was our star performer with 27 points. Aideen Mulligan knocked down 13 points, Caoimhe Mulvey bagged 9 points, Rebecca Higgins got eight points.

Aimee Mulligan and Isabelle Sweeney completed our scoring with two points each. Alex Lee, Suzanne Trout, Amy Finnegan and Kate Shannon completed our squad.
