Killoe power past Rathcline in Longford final

This afternoon’s victory over Rathcline sets up a meeting with Colmcille in the decider

Killoe booked a place in the Longford final as 13 different scorers proved to0 much for Rathcline.

The first score of the game was seven minutes in the making. That was before both teams registered points through Cian Kilmore and Eamon Keogh, writes Matthew Towey.

Shane Kenny got the first two-pointer of the day on 10 minutes as Rathcline looked dangerous in attack. However, Paddy Moran responded immediately for Killoe as both sides played out a tense opening period.

Two further points in quick succession for Rathcline from the boot of Oran Kenny moved Rathchline into a three-point lead after 15 minutes.

Points for Killoe from Mickey and Paddy Quinn reduced the lead to one before Gavin Farrelly palmed the ball into an empty Rathcline net for the opening goal.

Three points without reply from Danny Mimnagh, Mickey Quinn and James Moran put Killoe into a five-point lead on 29 minutes.

Shane Kenny converted a two-point free on the brink of half-time to get a much-needed score for Rathcline. At half time Killoe led by three points at half-time, 1-7 to 0-7.

Eamon Keogh got the opening score of the second-half with a point for Killoe on 33 minutes. Mark Hughes followed-up with another point as Killoe looked sharp early on.

Oran Kenny scored Rathclines first score of the second-half on 38 minutes before being dealt another blow when Eamon Keogh found the back of the net for Killoe.

Killoe now led by nine points with 39 minutes played.

Rathcline battling back

Rathcline threatened a comeback when Oran Kenny got two points in quick succession before Shane Kenny fired over a two-pointer. The gap now reduced to five points.

Killoe regained control from this point on with Evan Farrelly, Ronan McGoldrick and James Moran all firing over in the space of five minutes.

Oran Kenny who was instrumental all afternoon, got two more points for Rathcline in the closing stages. However, it proved to be little more than consolation.

Cian Dooner and Ronan McGoldrick got the final two scores of the afternoon for Killoe as they progress to the Longford county final where they will now meet Colmcille.

Killoe running out 11-point winners, 2-19 to 0-14.
