Killoe book Longford quater-final place

Killoe Emmet Og remain unbeaten in this year’s Longford championship following an 18-point victory over Mostrim writes Matthew Towey.

The win in Granard this evening, Killoe move top of Group one for tonight at least; and secures a place in the quarter-finals.

Killoe were in the driving seat from early on, Cian Farrelly opened the scoring with a point inside the opening 30 seconds. Two minutes Conor Mulligan found the back of the Mostirm net.

A James Moran point put Killoe into a five-point lead with six minutes played. Moments later the Killoe lead could have been greater only for Caolan Hussey in the Mostrim goal who saved excellently a Ryan Keogh effort.

The Killoe early dominance continued, first through a James Moran 45 before Paddy Moran struck a point three minutes later.

Mostrim did get up and running on 16 minutes when Shane Kiernan fired over a two pointer. Killoe now led by five points, 1-4 to 0-2.

Killoe were in for their second goal when a Ronan Keogh shot was deflected into the net with the aid of a Danny Mimnagh touch. Thomas Doyle responded with a much-needed point for Mostrim.

Killoe registered three points inside the final five minutes of the first-half, through James Moran, Evan Farrelly and Paddy Moran.

At the break Killoe ked by 10-points, 2-7 to 0-3. Paddy Moran opened the second-half scoring for Killoe when he fired over from play shortly after the restart.

The Killoe advantage grew with two points from Danny Mimnagh coming in the space of three minutes. Mostrim were struggling and registered three wides in the second half as the clock approached the 45-minute mark.

Killoe who were now emptying their bench, saw their lead extend with points from Cian Dooner, Ronan McGoldrick and Larry Moran. After 55 minutes Killoe led 2-16 to 0-3.

Mostrim eventually registered their first score of the half after 58 minutes. Adam Connaughton fired over. A minute later half forward Dylan Hutchinson added another for Mostrim.

Ronan McGoldrick kicked a point at the death, as Killoe had 18-points to spare at full time. Killoe overcoming Mostrim, 2-17 to 0-5.

Last night, Granard got the better of Carrickedmond to keep their survival hopes alive.
