Kerry FC record first ever home League of Ireland win

Longford Town were humbled as Kerry FC claimed their first ever home league of Ireland win.

Hopeless Longford have yet to register a win this season after seven games and find themselves four points adrift of Cobh Ramblers.

After such a poor start to the season, Stephen Henderson’s side have now become just the second team to lose to Kerry. While also becoming the first to loose in Mounthawk Park.

Longford keeper Jack Brady did well to stop Kennedy Amechi’s 39th minute strike. From the resulting corner, Sean O’Connell dragged his shot wide.

Kerry took the lead on 31 minutes. Ryan Kelleher found space down the Longford left hand side.

Kelliher found Stephen Healy who setup Sean McGrath, who slipped the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Longford should have been level six minutes later. Luke Wade-Slater gets heading a low cross just wide of the post.

Kelliher made it two five minutes before half-time as Longford’s defence fell apart. Kerry should have been three-up before half-time. Amechi original shot was cleared off the line before his follow-up was kept out by Brady.

Indeed, Brady kept Longford in it on 58 minutes. Daniel Okwute close range drive was well saved by Brady.

Amechi made it 3-0, nine minutes from time as Kerry registered a deserved victory. Their first league of Ireland win at home.

Longford Town are rooted to the bottom of the SSE Airtricity first division.
