Sexton out of opening Rainbow cup fixture

Johnny Sexton will miss Leinster’s opening Guinness Rainbow Cup game with Munster on Saturday night.

Sexton entered the Graduated Return to Play Protocols after the Exeter game and is having further assessment and once complete and all information is to hand, a further update will be given advised Leo Cullen.

The good news for Cullen however is the return of Scott Penny from a hand injury and Tommy O’Brien from an ankle injury.

While Jamison Gibson-Park sustained a hamstring injury and will be further assessed this week ahead of selection.

Garry Ringrose and Will Connors are due to increase participation in training after ankle and knee injuries respectively.

James Ryan and Caelan Doris are both due to increase training this week after completing the Graduated Return to Play Protocols.

Jack Dunne (ankle), Jimmy O'Brien (hamstring), Rowan Osborne (hand), Adam Byrne (quad), Dan Leavy (knee), Conor O’Brien (knee) and Max Deegan (knee) are all unavailable.
