Minister Chambers announces no priority for Olympic athletes and covid-19 vaccines

Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers says priority won't be given to Olympic athletes for Covid-19 vaccinations, ahead of the Tokyo Games this summer.

Denmark, Hungary and Israel have pledged to vaccinate all of their athletes ahead of travelling to Japan but Germany is strongly against the idea of competitors skipping the queue.

Certainly the international message from the Olympic federation has been that organisations within countries should follow the national scene” said minister Chambers.

“I think that’s important that we maintain the integrity around vaccination”.

There is no current plans for any sports men or women to receive covid-19 vacations and per Ireland’s plan, vacations will be delivered on an age basis to high performance athletes.
