Colmcille boss Ger Carberry put all celebrations on ice as his side booked a return to the Longford senior final.
“We know and the group know inside, we're no further on than we were last year” explained Carberry. “There's no point celebrating tonight, if nothing goes right the next day”.
“We just keep the heads down, the feet on the ground, and we'll prepare as best we can for Killoe”.
Clonguish went into the game favourites and looked odds on when Jack Duggan fired in a goal after just two minutes. However, Colmcille were excellent in response.
“I know we were underdogs” explained Carberry. “Maybe, people were kind of judging us on the form of this year. Clonguish were going in unbeaten and we lost our last group game to Killoe.
“We got over the line against Abbeylara, I can understand Clonguish were probably deserved favourites going in”.
“No one believed in us bar the group, the lads that were inside that dressing room” Carberry declared.
Carberry was quick to praise a number of performances, but had special praise for Eoghan Williams.
“I think Owen Williams is a seriously underrated player we were seriously missing him last year” Carberry explained.
“He was gone travelling, it was a big loss to us. We lost Enda Macken this year due to his injury and he’s trying to get his business up and running”.
“When Owen stepped in we knew we were just as strong with Owen there, a phenomenal player”.
Colmcille will face Killoe Emmet Og in the Longford senior final on October fifth in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
