Former Irish Rugby International Gary Halpin has passed away suddenly at the age of 55. Hailing from Kilkenny,  Halpin made 11 appearances for his country

Former Irish Rugby International Gary Halpin has passed away suddenly at the age of 55.

Hailing from Kilkenny,  Halpin made 11 appearances for his country as a prop forward between 1990 and 1995, scoring a try against New Zealand at the Rugby World Cup in 1995.

He also played for Leinster, London Irish and Harlequins.

On the Athletics front he represented Ireland at the World championships in 1987 at the Hammer event.

A teacher in Cistercian College in Roscrea, they paid tribute to their colleague and friend on social media
