Former Roscommon manager Des Newton is hoping the delayed return of the GAA season will not see players been lost from the game.

It now looks like inter-county games are unlikely to resume until May at the earliest.

It follows the confusion arising from the government’s new Living with COVID roadmap.

The document had listed inter-county GAA alongside elite sports permissible under level-4 and level-3 restrictions.

However, the Taoiseach said current restrictions will remain in place until April 5 at the earliest.

It’s hoped inter-county training can then resume with a view to starting the Allianz Leagues in May.

Speaking to the Shannonside sports desk, Newton remarked that it is important to follow the guidelines in place, but fears some players may not make a return for their counties
