Roscommon teenager Olivia Costello defies all expectations

Olivia Costello saw her amazing performance at the end AIG Irish Women’s Amateur Close matchplay come to an end at the semi-final stage.

The 13-year-old Roscommon golf club player’s fairy tale run came to end at the hands of eventual champion Anna Foster in Sunday's semi-final.

Foster recorded a 6&5 win before going onto lift the title with a 2&1 win over Beth Coulter.

Costello should hold her head high with a performance out weighting her young age where she saw off Tralee's Mary Sheehy, Kanturk's Mairead Martin and County Louth's Deirdre Smith on her way to the senior championship semi-final.

There is no doubt that we will see Costello back at the top of Irish golf for a long time to come.
