Clonguish ladies on top again At LIDL Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé

Clonguish Ladies took home silverware once again by beating Meath’s Ratoath in the Senior Ladies Cup at the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé.

The Clonguish girls beat Sarsfield Ladies of Newbridge, County Kildare in the first round 5-17 to 1-10 with Oonagh Shanley leading the charge upfront.

Their semi-final in strong winds at Pobailscoil Dingle pitch was a one-sided affair once again with the Longford ladies winning 8-18 to 0-2 against Galway’s Caltra Cuans.

This year’s competition was all played off on the Saturday. Clonguish seemed to have plenty in the tank for their third game of the day against Meath’s Ratoath in the final.

Ratoath had beaten Kerry side Corca Dhuibhne and Laois’s Ballyroan Ladies to book their spot.

The Meath girls were to the fore from the start going ahead by two points early in the first-half with the help of a huge wind in the otherwise dry Gallraus pitch. Home to tournament hosts An Ghaeltacht of West Kerry.

However, Clonguish gained control and led 1-2 to 1-2 at half-time. Clonguish took over in the second-half and Ratoath had no answer with the Longford ladies winning out by 4-9 to 1-4.

“We are delighted to have Clonguish bring home the bacon this weekend once again following their victory in 2020” said Comórtas Chairman Pádraig Óg Ó Sé.

“They are a credit to Longford in the way they conducted themselves. They enjoyed themselves by night and had a never say die attitude on the field of play.”

“The locals in attendance got great value from the final and as winners, they get a direct invitation to take part once again in 2023” concluded Ó Sé.
