Barry McNulty’s last-gasp point saw Leitrim score a dramatic 0-17 to 1-13 victory over Laois in Allianz football league division four at Portlaoise.
Paul Kingston’s goal 14 minutes from time gave Laois a three-point cushion before a late rally saw Leitrim claim victory in impressive fashion.
The sides traded three points each during the opening 13 minutes. Darragh Rooney, Tom Prior and Ryan O’Rourke on target for Leitrim.
Laois subsequently found another gear. Scores from Mark Barry (two) and Paul Kingston saw the hosts lead 0-6 to 0-3 on 26 minutes.
The sides subsequently traded two points each before two outstanding contributions followed from Aaron Cooney.
The Leitrim goalkeeper denied Darragh Rooney a goal on 34 minutes, 60 seconds later he repelled an effort from Tom Prior.
Laois’ Mark Barry followed up with another point on the stroke of half-time as the hosts led 0-9 to 0-5.
Leitrim’s Ryan O’Rourke made it a two-point game six minutes into the second half. Two minutes later, Barry restored Laois’ three-point cushion.
Leitrim responded impressively. Scores from Tom Prior, Nevin O’Donnell and Ryan O’Rourke made it a level game on 54 minutes.
Paul Kingston found the net two minutes later. The Laois forward added a point 60 seconds later and suddenly it was back to a four-point game.
Andy Moran’s men were resilient however. Scores from Ryan O’Rourke (two) and Darragh Rooney saw the visitors restore parity 60 seconds from time.
Mark Barry and Paul Keaney subsequently traded scores before McNulty gave Leitrim a one-point lead deep into injury time.
Barry could’ve salvaged a draw right at the death but his last-gasp free hit the upright resulting in a narrow win for Leitrim. Andy Moran's men are now right in the promotion mix with one game remaining.
