Barry McKeon inspires Colmcille comeback win over Mostrim

Colmcille stage late comeback to claim victory

Barry McKeon inspired Colmcille to a comeback win against Mostrim.

The Edgeworthstown side bossed the majority of the game, but ended-up on the wrong side of a five point defeat. Colmcille making two from two in the Longford SFC

Colmille started well and looked as if they would impose more misery on Mostrim who lost out by 17-points to Dromard last week. McKeon opening the scoring with a second minute point.

The sides kicked two wides each before Shane Kiernan levelled the game on seven minutes. Two minutes later and Caolan Hussey prevented a Fergal Sheridan goal after good link-up with Paul Farley.

The excellent Ronan Courtney landed his first two-pointer of the game on 11 minutes. Courtney converting a free after Colmcille were caught out for a three-player defensive breach.

Eoin Hawkins responded with a Colmcille free before a second Courtney two-point free had Mostrim five points to two ahead after 17 minutes. 60 seconds later and Hawkins converted his second free to make it a two point game.

Courtney added his third two-pointer, this one from play on 20 minutes. Five minutes later Courtney added a single point with Jack Belton bringing Mostrim to nine point’s moments later.

Ruairí Harkin landed Colmcille’s first score in 11 minutes before Mostrim’s Niall Quinn wrapped up the first-half scoring as Edgeworthstown led 10-points to four at half-time.

Belton opened the second-half scoring as a surprise looked on. However, A McKeon two-pointer free and points from Luke Donnelly, Ciaran McKeon and Hawkins (free) had Colmcille two behind.

Dario Cigliano landed Mostrim’s first score in 10 minutes as Mostrim led 12-points to nine after 42 minutes. Luke Kelly moved Mostrim four points ahead as Colmcille emptied the bench.

Keelan Hudson sent Colmcille on a match winning run of scores with 10 minutes remaining.

Barry McKeon's powerful run concluded with McKeon side footing the ball to net on 51 minutes to level the game. Luke Donnelly’s 56th minute point had Colmcille infront for the first time since the seventh minute. 1-11 to 0-13.

Mostrim lost their way in the final stages. Barry McKeon punished a three-player forward breach by converting the free. Paul McKeon fired over a two pointer to seal the victory in the final minute.

A Shane Kiernan point made it a three point game, but it wasn’t to be for Mostirm.

Cathal Reilly put the gloss on the win with a brilliant two pointer in the third minute of injury time as Colmcille recorded a 1-16 to 14-point win.
