Ballinamore brush Fenagh aside

A comfortable nine-point win over Fenagh in today’s replay set-up a meeting with Leitrim Gaels next Sunday.

Fenagh fell again at the semi-final hurdle as Ballinamore return to the final.

Ryan O’Rourke opened the scoring in this contest after two minutes when he fired over. Paul Honeyman was quick to respond for Ballinamore inside a minute when he tapped over a free.

Shane Moran and Paul Honeyman added a point each for Ballinamore before Ryan O'Rourke responded for Fenagh with his second score of the afternoon.

With 14 minutes played, Ballinamore got their first goal of the contest when Michael McKiernan rifled the ball into the back of the Fenagh net.

Paul Honeyman and Paul Moran added points as Ballinamore moved into a six-point lead with 18 minutes played.

Oisin McLoughlin got a much-needed score when he curled over a wonderful effort for Fenagh after 20 minutes of play.

Tom Prior then brought a five-minute scoring draught to an end. Prior firing the ball over the bar from play in the 25th minute.

Ryan O’Rourke and Fergal McLoughlin registered the final two scores of the half for Fengh as they reduced the Ballinamore lead to four as the half-time whistle sounded.

At half-time Ballinamore led 1-6 to five points.

Ryan O’Rourke opened the second-half scoring. Just as he had in the first with an attempt from play, two minutes into the second half.

Paul Honeyman fisted over Ballinamore’s first score of the half before Donal Wrynn excellently kicked a 45. Thus, reducing the Fenagh deficit back to three.

Paul Honeyman weaved his way through the Fenagh defence to fire over from play. Michael McKiernan got the only two pointer and arguably the score of the day from the outside of his left boot.

Both sides traded points through Tom Prior and Ryan O’Rourke. Ballinamore got their second goal of the day when the ever present Prior slipped the ball beneath Shane Doonan in the Fenagh net.

After 52 minutes, Ballinamore were in a commanding nine-point lead; 2-11 to eight points.

Riordan O’Rourke added two points for Fenagh either side of a Kealan McHugh point for Ballinamore. However, it proved to be little more than consolation for his side.

Ballinamore ran out victorious 2-13 to 0-10. Ballinamore will now face Leitrim Gales in next Sunday's decider.
