Athloe Town beat ZNK Agram 3–0 in this afternoons Women's Champions league qualifier at Lissywollen.
A dominant first-half performance set the scene for this afternoon’s historic victory for the Midlands based club. Athlone were in control in the early stages but had a Kelly Brady goal disallowed after 15 minutes.
Indeed, Athlone did not waste further time when Maddie Gibsons in swinging ball made its way into the back of the Croatian net just three minutes later.
Four minutes later Hannah Waesch doubled the hoasts lead. The midfielder was allowed far too much time, roaming forward, finishing well to send the home fans into raptures.
On the brink of half-time with Maddie Gibson added her sides third when her corner kick evaded everyone, drifting into the back of the Agram net.
The second-half which followed saw a controlled performance from the hosts, playing their second game in four days. Athlone made full use of their subs, remaining in full control throughout the half.
Next up in Europe for Colin Fortunes side is a meeting with Breidablik of Iceland later this month. That fixture will take place in Twente, the Netherlands in the final qualifying round for the women’s Champions league.
