Ardee end Longford champions Colmcille's Leinster campaign

Colmcille bowed out of the Leinster championship after a 3-7 to 1-7 defeat to Ardee.

The Louth champions struck Colmcille twice on the counter attack as Ardee won out by two goals.

Longford champions Colmcille settled quickest and led two points to nill after 13 minutes. Jack Macken and Philip McKeon with the scores.

Jonathan Commins opened Ardee’s account after 13 minutes. A minute later Colmcille were robbed from the restart, Daire McConnon found the net.

Colmcille responded well Cathal Reilly finding the Ardee net to make it 1-2 a piece on 26 minutes.

Ardee did damage before half-time. Carl Gillespie restored the lead with a point a minute later. 60 seconds later McConnon had the ball in the net for his second goal.

McConnon added a point before the break to lead 2-4 to 1-2.

Jack Macken opened the second-half with an immediate point for Colmcille. Jonathan Commins sent over Ardee’s first score of the half on 36 minutes.

The Longford champions looked stronger in the later part of the half. It would take eight minutes for another score, Cian McKeon grabbing it for the Longford side.

Eoin Hawkins and two Jack Macken frees made it 1-7 to 2-5 with Colmcille looking stronger.

However Ardee stung Colmcille with a counter attack and Shane Matthews finished the ball to the net.

Matthews added a last gasp point as Ardee ended the Longford side’s Leinster campaign at the first hurdle.
