SLURRY SPREADING AND THE FODDER CRISIS

Slurry spreading will begin on farms across the region in the coming weeks when the closed period comes to an end.

Counties in Zone B which includes Longford, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath can legally spread manure from January 15th, while counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim and Monaghan which are in Zone C can start from January 31st.

It’s been a difficult few months for farmers because of high rainfall and in October applications opened for farmers to avail of an extension to the slurry spreading period.
