Should B and B's charge a booking deposit?

 

You heard it here last week – the Restaurants association of Ireland is calling on its members to request non - refundable deposits to prevent no-shows.

Chef Gary O’ Hanlon told us that ‘’it was basic good manners to tell restaurants you couldn’t turn up’’ and also said that some businesses had ‘’gone to the wall’’ because of unsold tables.

Mary Roddy says similar action may be needed in the B and B sector – she runs the Harp and Shamrock bar in Keadue, County Roscommon – and tells us she’s had between 18 and 30 no-shows in the last 12 months.
