New figures show a total of 41 businesses in the Shannonside/Northern Sound region benefitted from small loans totalling more than €500,000 from the government-funded, not-for-profit lender Microfinance Ireland in 2016.
The loans, ranging between €2,000 and €25,000, are supporting the creation and retention of local jobs.
The chief executive of Microfinance Ireland, Garrett Stokes, explained to Eoghan Murphy how the state-backed lenders supports employment.
