A new pharmaceutical plant in Athlone expects to employ more than the 50 people it originally planned.
In January, Californian company Aerie Pharmaceuticals announced it would invest €22 million on establishing a manufacturing facility in the town to produce eye treatments.
The plans have progressed since then, with planning permission obtained to make alterations to the IDA Advanced Technology Building at the Dublin Road, where the plant will be based.
The factory is on track to open fully in 2020, but recruitment for some of the positions has already begun.
Barry Ivin, Aerie's site director in Athlone, spoke to Eoghan Murphy earlier and firstly outlined some details about the company.
