Meetings have taken place this week among people connected to St Johns National School in Lecarrow in south Roscommon to discuss the idea of developing the school on the Community National School model.
A campaign began earlier this year to try to secure the future of the school after declining enrolment numbers.
The campaign group said they would begin examining the possibility of a “change of ethos” for the school and for it to become a “non-denominational” school.
