The National Famine Commemoration took place in Co Longford for the first time over the weekend.
The formal state ceremony was attended by Taoiseach Simon Harris and Culture Minister Catherine Martin among others.
Celebrating the work and charity of Maria Edgeworth during the famine, the event also drew parallels with the current war in Gaza.
