It was announced earlier today that Fr Tom Healy , Parish Priest of Edgeworthstown , Co Longford has been elected by the College of Consultors to be the Diocesan Administrator of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.
The role of the Diocesan Administrator is to administer the day to day affairs of the diocese until a new bishop is appointed, and there's been no indication so far as to when that will happen.
Fr Tom will also continue in his role as parish priest of Edgeworthstown in addition to his new duties.
He previously served as Administrator, St Mel's Cathedral from 2005 until 2017 , during which time he worked along with a number of parish teams on the restoration and reopening of the cathedral in the aftermath of the Christmas Day Fire of 2009.
