The Environmental Protection Agency is urging people in the Connaught region to get their homes tested for radon gas if they find a high level in their area.

The EPA published updated maps for the entire country yesterday for the first time in 20 years, and far more houses are now at risk than were estimated a couple of decades ago.

David Fenton who's a scientist with the EPA says improvements in technology and the airplane-led Tellus survey in recent years has led to a significant increase in the areas identified with high levels of radon.

The colourless and odourless gas is naturally occurring in some soils and rocks and is linked to 350 new lung cancers each year.

People can now go online and enter their Eircode into the EPA map to find out if their home is at risk.

David Fenton has been speaking to Anne Norris on the Let's Talk show.
