Plans are in the early stages of developing a new type of school for students in the Shannonside region.
Currently, several children from Roscommon and north Leitrim are getting a unique education at a 'Sudbury' school in Sligo.
The facilities are described as being 'free' or democratic schools where children take an active role in deciding what they learn and how they are taught.
