Conservation measures on sections of the Athlone Town Wall at Court Devenish and Railway View in the town have been finished in recent days.
The Town Wall was originally built in the mid-13th century.
Only a few sections of the wall are still standing today, including the "Dublin Gate Wall" in front of the Civic offices in the middle of the town, and the remains of the bastion at Lucas Lane.

The work carried out in recent weeks safeguarded one of the earliest surviving stretches of the wall which includes a circular tower possibly dating from the 16th century.
A short documentary following the progress of the works, commissioned by Westmeath County Council and the Irish Walled Towns Network, will be available on YouTube in the coming weeks.
