The head of the Mayo-Roscommon hospice says all safety precautions were implemented before construction staff were allowed back on site this week.
Concern had been expressed locally that workers were observed at the site of the new Roscommon hospice this week, despite the Level 5 lockdown and no work having been carried out at all in January.
The project is deemed as 'essential' under government level 5 lockdown rules- but the Hospice committee decided to allow workers a three week period away from site to prevent any possible Covid issues on their return.
According to Martina Jennings, it was agreed that builders would return to the site at the beginning of this month - and just eight people were on site to begin preparation for first fix electrical works.
She says the decision was taken with health and safety in mind.
