Work begins to restore services disrupted by Storm Barra

Motorists and pedestrians are being warned to be careful of fallen debris or trees.

Storm Barra has seen severe winds and heavy rain continue to batter the country overnight.

Orange wind warnings are in place for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo this morning, while a yellow alert will remain for the country until this evening.

The storm has led to the widespread disruption of hospital services and public transport.

Last night, the Department of Education advised schools in 12 counties, including Dublin, to remain closed today as a precaution.

Tens of thousands of homes and businesses also remain without power.
