Woman who died in Roscommon fire is named locally

The fatal house fire has shocked the local community in and around Athleague

The woman who died in a fire in Athleague in the early of this morning has been named locally as Noreen Flanagan.

Investigations are underway into the cause of the fire which was first reported by neighbours at around 6.30am.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but Ms Flanagan, who lived alone in the two bedroom bungalow, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 7am.

A post mortem examination is taking place this evening, and tributes have been paid to the well- known and liked Athleague local.

Councillor Laurence Fallon says the incident has left the area in shock.
