Woman who died in Carrick on Shannon boat fire named

Deirdre Finn was an off-duty member of An Garda Siochána and was attached to Dun Laoghaire Station in Dublin.

The woman who died in a fire at the Marina in Carrick on Shannon has been named as Deirdre (Dee) Finn.

She was a member of an Garda Siochána and was attached to Dun Laoghaire Station in Dublin.

Her body has been moved to Sligo University Hospital Mortuary for a post mortem,

Miss Finn was off duty while in Carrick on Shannon.

The scene is currently preserved and the boat has been removed to a secure location.

A technical examination will take place of the scene and boat by the Garda Technical Bureau in due course.

Cathaoirleach of the Carrick on Shannon MD, councillor Enda Stenson, says the whole area is thinking of the family at this time

"It's not suspicious or anything like that it's just a tragedy for the people and we're so sympathetic to her family because it's great to welcome all those people to Carrick on Shannon for the boat rally and for a tragedy like that to happen, it's incredibly sad".
