Two Roscommon natives awarded scholarships to teach and research in USA

Fullbright Scholarships are grants for Irish citizens to complete postdoctoral or professional research in the United States.

Two Roscommon natives have been awarded scholarships to teach and research in the United States.

The accolades were presented to Dr. John Gilmore and Dr. Cliodhna McHugh at a special ceremony in Iveagh House in Dublin on Thursday.

Dr. McHugh who is a native of Curraghboy is a post doctorate researcher in the school of medicine at Trinity College and will now take up a position at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.

While Dr. Gilmore who's a professor in nursing at UCD will visit the University of California in San Francisco to explore enablers and barriers to community led LGBT healthcare.

The two locals are among 40 Irish citizens to benefit from the FullBright Scholarships.
