'The men have been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking'

Two men remain in Garda custody after cocaine worth 8.4 million euro was seized in Co Westmeath.

It was found after two vehicles were stopped and searched near Lough Owel on Thursday.

A light aircraft was also seized at a commercial airfield in County Longford.

Meanwhile, homes were searched in Naas, County Kildare and Waterford City.

The two men have been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seamus Boland is head of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

He says the investigation is continuing with the help of international law enforcement agencies
