The Department of Agriculture has now lifted a 3km protection zone in County Monaghan, where 3,800 turkeys had to be culled last month.

People will definitely be able to taste turkey this Christmas time.

The Agriculture Minister says it's still very much on the menu as fears around the spread of avian flu have been brought under control.

Minister Charlie McConalogue says farmers kept the situation under control by following safety measures.

Despite the fact that we had outbreaks in two smaller flocks, it was a very small percentage of our national production.

All of our turkey farmers deserve massive credit for all of their work over the last number of weeks.

They're all massively busy at the moment preparing those turkeys for the Christmas plates.

Thankfully its a good situation to be in, that they will be able to be rewarded for the work that they have done and families will be able to enjoy turkeys on Christmas day.
