Tributes paid to Monaghan man who died in Carrick-on-Shannon accident

He's believed to have entered the water in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Tributes have been paid to a Co Monaghan man who died in a tragic accident in Carrick-on-Shannon over the weekend.

Enda McCarney is believed to have entered the water on Sunday morning and a major search got underway throughout Sunday afternoon in the town.

His remains were recovered a few hours later.

Gardaí are treating it as a tragic incident and a file is being prepared for the county Coroner.

Castleblayney Hurling Club has extended its sympathies to committee member Catriona McCarney, née Quirke, on the untimely passing of her husband.

Monaghan GAA has also extended its sympathy to the McCarney and Quirke families on the passing of Enda.

The funeral for the Scotstown native will take place at St Mary's Chapel, Urbleshanny at 11am on Thursday, followed by Cremation in Lakelands Crematorium Cavan.
