The former school principal has pleaded not guilty to the various charges.

Roscommon Circuit Court has heard a claim that a school canteen was earning up to €1,000 per week, as the trial of a former school principal continues today.

Frank Chambers of Carnacregg, Moylough, Co Galway has pleaded not guilty to various charges of theft and false accounting in relation to the canteen at Roscommon Community College between 2011 and 2017.

The court heard evidence on Wednesday from a witness who previously worked at the school and claimed that because of the large volume of students the canteen could have takings of between €800 and €1000 euro at the end of a school week.

The trial also heard disputed claims by the defence over a hardback copybook which allegedly contained details of dates and the amounts of money passing through the canteen.

The trial continues in front of Judge Francis Comerford at Roscommon Circuit Court sitting in Sligo.
