Three local projects recognised at national heritage awards

The awards honour the organisers of engaging and inspiring events for National Heritage Week.

3 projects in the shannonside region have been recognised by the Heritage Council for the most sucessful heritage event in their counties.

Leitrim's award went to Leitrim Sweathouse for their "Ask about Archaelogy" event, while the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre in Roscommon took home top prize for their "Idols and Unclean Things" exhibition on the Gortnacrannagh figure.

Knights and Conquests in County Longford were awarded for their "Norman people" re-enactment and Michael Collins exhibition.

The Kilteevan Graveyard Committee in Roscommon were also awarded the runner-up prize in the overall "sustainability" category for their digital project on the self-sufficiency of Kilteevan from the 18th to the 20th century.
