A tender has been published for a major new bike rental scheme in the Shannonside region.
The scheme will run in Athlone and Mullingar for a period of three years.
The tender, published this week, by Westmeath County Council, seeks an operator to roll out and operate a bike hire scheme in Athlone and Mullingar for an initial period of 3 years with a review after an initial 6-month bedding in period.
It states that it should operate on an app-based system which controls the locking and unlocking of the bikes and payment via credit and debit card.
The successful operator will monitor the parking locations of the bikes and ensure they can be locked and tethered in the agreed designated zones within each town.
The bikes should also have a minmum of 3 gears and be easily accessed by the public
It also notes that customer service needs to be available to the public during operating hours of the scheme, and social media campaigns should also be provided as an option
The deadline for responses is the 4th of April.
