Longford Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke is calling on the HSE and HIQA to issue statements to clarify if any Covid case has been confirmed at St Joseph's care centre in Longford town.

It follows unconfirmed reports that a member of staff tested positive recently but that visiting wasn't restricted.

The HSE says all residents at St Joseph's are Covid free, but it hasn't given any explanation for the restriction of visting from this morning at The Lodge, just behind St Josephs, and which is described by the HSE as "a separate unit".

The Sinn Fein TD says it isn't good enough that the HSE isn't stating whether any member of staff may have tested positive in recent weeks and if immediate action was taken to lower the risk to other staff members and residents.

Deputy Clarke says St Joseph's has an excellent reputation of caring for the people of the county and it's a shame to see that lack of clear communication could damage that.

Speaking on Let's Talk this afternoon, Sorca Clarke repeated her call for the HSE and HIQA to be more open about this kind of instances:
