It was confirmed this week that currently derelict headquarters building at the former home of the 4th Cavalry would be eligible for major funding under the THRIVE Scheme.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has given his full support to the redevelopment of the former Connolly Barracks in Longford Town. It was confirmed this week that currently derelict headquarters building at the former home of the 4th Cavalry would be eligible for major funding under the THRIVE Scheme. The Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme can provide up to 7 million euro towards the regeneration of a town centre historic building.

Speaking in the Dail yesterday, local TD Joe Flaherty urged Leo Varadkar through the full support of the government behind the project. The Connolly Barracks campus has been vacant for over a decade, with Longford Westmeath ETB using part of the grounds. The main building itself was, until recently, under consideration as a potential centre for the housing of Ukrainian Refugees. Addressing the Taoiseach Yesterday, Deputy Flaherty said the project is a key part in the regeneration of the town in general:
