Taoiseach accused of drinking to much green tea in Dail rows over turf ban

The turf wars continued in the Dail earlier

An Independent TD has said Micheál Martin is drinking too much green tea and it's going to his head when it comes to dealing with environmental issues.

It comes amid a bitter row in the Dáil over the proposed ban on the commercial cutting of turf.

Sinn Féin and Rural Independents have called on the ban to be scrapped ahead of a Dáil motion tonight.

Minister Eamon Ryan has been meeting members of the parliamentary parties of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

The Chief Executive of Irish Rural Link is urging people not to worry unduly about whether they can continue to burn turf.

Seamus Boland met yesterday with members of the Green Party including Eamon Ryan to discuss any new proposals on the harvesting and sale of peat.

He says the government can't take away people's rights to burn turf without making sure they have some other means of heating their homes.
