Suicide prevention organisations in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are appealing to people in difficulty to reach out for support.

Counsellors will be available over the Christmas period for people who are struggling with issues during the holiday period.

Tom O' Reilly from Leitrim based, North West STOP which covers the entire Border and Midlands region says while they are very busy, they are still meeting their targets of speaking to people within six hours of them contacting the service.

He says that in ninety percent of their cases people are in a better place once they have had an initial call from a counsellor:
