Plans for a new McDonalds restaurant in Carrick have hit a stumbling block.

Planning permission for a large Drive-thru McDonalds Outlet in Carrick On Shannon has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

McDonald's Restaurants Ireland Ltd received the go-ahead from Leitrim County Council last month to construct a 2 storey drive-thru restaurant at Rosebank Retail Park on the Dublin Road.

The original conditions of the permission included the development of a pest control management plan and A pre-construction survey for frog spawn carried out by a qualified ecologist.

The plans had been the subject of several submissions from state bodies and the public, with The TII and locals highlighting concerns over the impact on traffic levels in the town.

An appeal to the planning permission has been lodged by EMAC Catering Ltd who, in a submission to the local authority, says the presence of the proposed restaurant will be harmful to the health of students of a nearby school.

The higher planning authority is due to decide on the case in February of next year.
