The Fianna Fail Councillor says he will be examining his position on the LCSP committee if adequate resources are not allocated.

Longford Town must see a fair allocation of Gardaí in the near future according to a local Councillor.

Last week saw the Minister of Finance commit to funding the recruitment of between 800 and 1,000 new Gardaí, with a budget increase of 172 million euro.

Councillor Seamus Butler sits on the Longford Community Safety Partnership Programme, one of three pilot initiatives nationwide designed to tackle criminality and anti social bevhiour, while supporting wellness and community programmes.

The Fianna Fail representative believes the programme, which he acknowledges has done much good, will be classed a failure if not adequately resourced.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Councillor Butler says the key to tackling the criminal issues facing the town is a strong visible police presence.

He's stated that if such support does not materialise, then he will be examining his position on the committee:
