The club was informed over the weekend of a cluster of cases in the locality

Strokestown Minor GAA club has suspended all operations in order to help slow the spread of Covid-19 among young people in the area.

That's according to Chairman of the Minor Club, John McHugh, who says with School returning at the end of this month, high local levels of the virus need to be tackled.

The club received contact from the HSE in the last number of days due to high levels of Covid transmission among the town's minor teams.

Health officials are registering significant concern over the number of positive Covid cases and close contacts throughout a number of age groups within the minor club and the town itself.

The Boyle LEA currently has a 14-day incidence rate of over twice the national average.
