Start of 2023 sees major increase in local electric vehicle sales

Roscommon saw an almost doubling in numbers of new EVs purchased.

There's been a substantial increase in the number of electric vehicles sold in the Shannonside region in January of this year compared to last year

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show sales have increased by an average of 97% across the region.[Sales of electric vehicles across the Shannonside region have increased dramatically compared to the same time last year.

Roscommon sold the most electric vehicles last month at 23, up from just 12 last year, representing a 91% increase.

Longford and Leitrim both sold 8 each, double last year's figure.

However Longford also had the largest percentage drop in new cars sold nationwide, going from 149 last year, to 131 this year, a drop of 12%.

Leitrim registered the same amount of cars as last year at 102.

While Roscommon experienced an 11% increase on last year's sales, from 253 last year to 282.

Nationally, the amount of new cars registered last month totaled 27,364, a 9% increase on last year's figure of 25,014.
